Dado Villa-Lobos - Jardim de Cactus

by Rafael Nery

The fans of Legião Urbana, mainly the fans of the guitar player Dado Villa-Lobos, got a gift with the releasingof his newest album,  which had it content released previously in a Live MTV DVD. The album features several musicians such as:Paula Toller, Toni Platão, Chicho Buarque among many others.

The album starts with "Dois Ouvidos" which is set as an introduction. Full of effects, Dado takes over the bass as well as
the sequenced instruments and the percussion, we can notice several passagens using the lydian scale which brings a  very specialmood.

The track "Jardim de Cactus" co-wrote and sang together with Paula Toller shows an interesting mottive showed all over the composition, the chorus sounds great with both of them singing in octave, definitely it could be a hit on the radio.

"Diamanete" and "Dias" show the pop side of the artist as well as cool melodies and with some lyricis showing a much more reflexive and introspectie side. "Cores em mim" has great guitar fills which highlight Dado's skills as an instrumentist. "Como te gusta" has a pretty catchy chorus, so it is probably a great to song to be peformed alive. The wind instruments fill the song in an interesying way.

"Laufunk" stands out for its great guitars full of wah wah, good licks and a drums which can remind us something from the 80's. A good acoustic guitar arrangement starts "Tropeço" which is my favourite song from the CD, good lyrics and great melody.

The album still has great moments: Natureza which features Chico Buarque and Jayme Villa-Lobos playing the Opus 10 Nº 3 of Frederic Chopin to end the album in a good away.

For sure a "Must see" album for those who follow his career.
