Demo Tape - Superstitious

By Rafael Nery

Superstitious is a band from São Paulo which was formed in 2007 with focused idea of having their own songs, but also to play songs from the Europe's career. The line-up is formed by Luis Wasques - Vocals , Rodrigo Cordeiro - Guitars ,Danilo Wasques - Bass , Rodrigo Savietto - Drums and Leandro Beasin - Keyboards.

There are three songs avaliable in their myspace page and these were the songs I was able to listen to. They define the style of the band as Hard Rock, but to be perfectly honest what I could realize that they do not sound as a hard rock band from the USA. It is much more into an european hard rock with several influences from Heavy Metal which are even stronger due to the characteristic Luis' kind of voice.

"Inside our Hearts" is the first song on the page and this song starts with a very typical hard rock introduction, but when the voices starts singing it reminded me the Place Vendome album by Michael Kiske.Maybe due to the voice melody, the keyboard and the strong chorus. The guitar solo has an interesting two hand lick.

"Let it rain" stars with a heavy metal lick full of dissonances which fits Luis' voice inmuch better since it could be compared to a Bruce Dickinson's solo career Riff as well as the voice melody in the first Part.

"Nice Times" is the closest song to hard rock style and it starts with that typical G major chord in the acoustic guitar like a good Skid Row ballad. What I couldn't understand was the voice melody in the beggining which sounds something Like U2 or Beatles and I don't think that was the right choice since after the melody turns out into the real spirit of the song and has an interesting theme in the chorus .A beautfiul solo guitar is also included.

My biggest advice to the band would be to focus on their own songs and to record more songs in a professional way, because they have good ideas and I think it should not be in their second plan.
