Hello guys !!! This month, we should work a little more with some elements that we had studied already last months in this column. For the next steps, all concepts that we learned before should be very clear in your mind, just like intervals, tetrads derivated from different scales and all relationships between chords and scales. For this, I built some harmonic sequences for analisys, so you should indicate tonality, degrees and scales that should be used on each case. Notice that on all examples I mixed the tetrads derivated from natural minor, harmonic minor and melodic minor scales. You can also notice that in the harmony of a lot of standards from realbook, it is possible to find chords from different tonalities, or also secondary and substitute dominants, on which will be certainly necessary to use scales/chords/arpeggios that are not part of the initial group of scales/chords/arpeggios. So, it´s very important for the musician to understand clearly which scales should be used on each chord, as you can find in the exercises showed here. And, for a better understanding of all this stuff, could also be very interesting for the music student to build new exercises by yourself, after analyse all exercises proposed here in this column. Doubts? Suggestions? Send an e-mail to: ivan@venegasmusic.com. See you !
