Technique + Phrasing

by André Viegas

Hi everybody!

This month's lick is an Am sweep picking sequence. It starts on the 5th fret on the 6th string with a run using A minor scale in Thirds, repeating the same pattern one octave above, starting on the 7th fret of the 4th string. From here we have a down run using the Am7 arpeggio. Again we have a run with the minor scale played in thirds, this time starting from the C note (which is the minor third of Am), and a down run using the Am7 arpeggio. Once more we have the scale in thirds, this time starting from the E note (which is the 5th of Am) and this time a down run on the Am triad starting from the root note from the first string and repeating it one octave below. From here on the phrase can be repeated from the start which will result in a loop - this is the ideal form to study for repeated times and increase the speed gradually on the metronome. The phrase ends in the root note A on the 5th fret of the 6th string.

Have fun and see you next month!
