01- Hi  Ciro. How are you doing? Thanks for this opportunity. Start by telling us how you started your work at Souza Lima Music School.

I studied there in the early 90’s and in that time the school was already famous for having great musicians as teachers, so since the beginning I felt like teaching  there. Some years after, in 1998 I was called out to do the transcriptions of the book “FIFTEEN” which was edited and released by the school. I took the opportunity to leave my resume and I was hired to teach in the early 1999.

02- Souza Lima has a guitar orchestra organized by you. How did it come up?

In fact this idea came up as an  evolution of the Quadrivium guitar quartet which was agroup in which I had played in the last 90. In the Quadrivium we played songs of guitar erudite composers and for so we had to make a series of research such as   techniques appropriated to the style , varied tunings and even the usage of guitars of different size as the piccolo guitar. After the group was over I got these researches to create  the Souza Lima Guitar Orchestra with students of the school. It has been on since 2002 and I’ve been so proud of it.

03- Which area exactly do you deal with at school?

Beside guitar classes I also teach theory, traditional harmony and counterpoint.

04-Do you think that being in the same atmosphere with great musicians as you’ve got around there is a good point for music students?

For sure! As I see it, this is one of the best point of our school, because the student can have many classes a week with teachers who are great musicians and work in different areas and different music styles.

05-What are your present projects and future plans as teacher?

I’ve been working on an on line course which is likely to initiate next year. I shall start it with the course of guitar and theory and later on I’d like to add harmony and counterpoint. In a soon future I intend to have some material which will use varied medias ( such as video, animated photos, files of sound and links) and is big and detailed enough to help in the study of non presence for a long time.

06- Thanks a lot. We appreciated your attention. Get your conclusions and leave your message to our visitors.

I thank you for the opportunity. As we talked about  Souza Lima School and I know that a great number of your visitors are guitar students, I’d like to leave a message which has a lot to do with musical education. Music is a complex art which demands lots of technical knowledge and structural. Therefore if  one wants to take it up as a profession, it’s very important to choose great teachers, read good books, keep your mind opened to all the styles and specially stick to it.
