Andy Timmons - Workshop in Brazil

by Rodrigo Rodrigues

In the cold night of June 8th,I was too sick, but I could go to Andy's Workshop held in São Paulo,at EMT.After that I could realize that this guy is one of the best musicians in the world.

Am I going overboard?I am sure that all fans on that day would agree with me totally.Andy was very neat and he started the workshop by playing an energetic song called "Supper' 70s".Andy thanked all brazilians for their hospitality because before the concert Andy had been exausthed by his trip. Andy told us about his interests in Yoga and misticism which has influenced him, and he also said that inspirations for songs can be from moments he has lived, like "Cry for you" written when Andy moved to Texas.

He started playing influenced by his brother who had an acoustic guitar and by the age of 5, Andy tried to play it just on one string.

At age os sixteen he decided to be a professional musician and having a huge influence from Steve Lukather, he worked as a studio musician.

The most interesting is that Andy is a rock n' roll style guitarist, but his first teacher was a jazz player, and he also said that the most important for him, even with his lots of studies about harmony is having a good listening for learning songs.

He played classic ones like "Cry for you" (all the audience went crazy with this song).I Remember Steve, Eletric Gypsy,Falling Down, Groove or die and some songs from his new album called "Resoluton" as the track "Gone", a tribute to the victims of 11th September.

There was an unexpected acoustic session with Andy playing some Beatles songs and singing(It could have been instrumental...) together with the audience, and he also made a version for "Garota de Ipanema" with Andy trying to say the lyrics correctly.

Congratulations to Equipo, dealer of Ibanez Guitars,D'dario Strings and EMT for this excelent guitarist workshop with lots of nice melodies and rock'n roll style. Now we should just wait for someday when Andy Timmon's full show comes to Brazil.
