Concert review : by George Marios

Hello Guitar Clinic readers, it’s been a while. I hope that you are doing well and burn those frets!

While studying at Leeds College of Music I had the opportunity to watch one of the most gifted musicians in the world, the unique Allan Holdsworth with his amazing band. The gig took place at a local venue and there were about 400 fusion fans that night.

The level of musicianship among the band that included the great Chad Wackerman on drums and Jimmy Johnson on bass, was very high, the songs were played with passion and accuracy and the improvisations were unique and musical.

Allan Holdsworth, despite his age, maintains a technical level that is unbelievably complex and very much reminiscent of the saxophone soloing in terms of sound.

The gig finished with enthusiasm and the crowd hailed this unique band that graced us with one and a half hour of fantastic music.

Unfortunately, people are stupid and jealous. This is my conclusion after listening to some of the audience’s comments such as ‘He played too many notes’. My advice to those narrow minded people would be to listen better and appreciate what is being exposed to them.

Take care, talk to you soon!
